This brush is comparable to Urban Decay's Good Karma Optical Blurring brush for those of you who are familiar with that brand. The brush is dense enough to blend and apply liquid foundation very well, but small enough to get all areas of your face, including the areas underneath/around the eyes and nose. Bristles are smooth, and are made for liquid makeup, so application feels super smooth and easy. This brush has become the one I use every day, and you can't beat the price either!

Use it every day!

By S on August 28, 2014

This brush is perfect for applying powder foundations. I don't like it so much with liquid foundation/bb creams because I feel it's a bit streaky with those, but when I use this for buffing in my Bare Minerals powder, it blends everything in seamlessly! I don't like the bare minerals brushes because they're scratchy and shed, but this is soft, never sheds on me, and is something I can't imagine doing my makeup without! The brush hairs are short, and very dense making it a perfect buffing brush. Must have if you use mineral makeup or powder foundation!

I have mixed feelings about this brush. I initially bought it about a year ago. The bristles were soft and dense and it worked amazingly up until about 3 months ago when the head/bristles randomly popped off. I am not hard on my brushes and am very gentle, taking care to clean and store them carefully. It appears it's just poorly assembled or made. I did get almost a year's worth of use out of it and considering the price, I'd say that's pretty good. I liked my original brush enough that I decided to order another. (I decided that even though my first brush was poorly glued, it had great application at an unbeatable price so why not?) My second brush came in and I was disappointed. It is not as dense as my first brush, so the application is a little less smooth.
I'd say it's a great brush for the cost, but it's not amazing. The bristles on this second brush is shedding more than my first as well, but I can't use my first without the head popping off!
Purchase with caution

Good Price and Quality

By tickytack on March 23, 2016

Still being new to foundation brushes, this is the second one I have tried. The first being an ELF Kabuki brush, that wasn't designated as a foundation brush. The only thing I'm having a hard time getting used to is the smaller size of this brush. It almost seems that I have to use more foundation than I did with the other, also it seems to leave a cakey texture. But all in all for the price of this brush compared to the higher end brushes, the quality seems excellent. Perfect brush for a beginner that isn't sure about using a foundation brush. I would recommend this brush, and I will be trying other Real Technique brushes in the future!

The bristles are soft, and plentiful, smooth and they don't fall out.
The design makes it easy to hold with a grippy lower handle.
It does a great job in dispersing Maybelline Dream Matte mousse make up! Which is why I bought it.

Recommend? YES
Very competitive price.
I just bought 2 more to have as extras. -)

I watched a Youtube video about how to clean it and it's simple:
Use SHAMPOO on your hand.

Put the shampoo dab on your palm and make circles with the DAMPENED brush head until the shampoo lathers it up and you have complete coverage of shampoo on the brush head. Then brush your fingers to be sure that the shampoo really gets onto all the bristles.
Then rinse it and make circles on your palm and brush your fingers, waiting for the water to be clear.
Once it's clear, dab the brush head dry with a towel, and place the brush slightly downward so that the head is a little bit lower than the handle, so that none of the water left over makes its way down into the shaft.
It's very important that no water gets inside the shaft, because if that happens, bristles may come out the glue inside weakens (this didn't happen to me, it's just the warning on the video).

I bought this back in March and am just washing it for the first time today ( really bad I know ) but then I had to do my makeup for work without it while it was drying and missed it so much I decided to write a well deserved review.

I had stopped using liquid foundation for and while and was only using loose and pressed powders because sponge applicators left my face looking cakey and my fingertips made my makeup look streaky. I ordered this brush in hopes of upping my face game and boy oh boy :) I use it after primer to buff on foundation and I only have to apply a couple small dabs of makeup to my cheeks, forehead and chin and this brush takes that small amount and covers my entire face. And the coverage is even and flawless and not cakey at all. My skin even looks dewy after application which I've never experienced before with liquid foundation.

Today I just used my finger tips to apply my foundation and I had to use almost twice as much and the coverage can't even compare. Also, the brush washed up really well. I washed it with some other real techniques brushes I ordered along with this one and none of them lost any bristles. All the real techniques brushes have held their form very well and dried quickly after washing (which is not something I can say about my Bare Minerals or Lancôme brushes)

If you're on the fence, buy it. It's a necessity and a steal for the price.

Side note: I was on the fence between this and the stippling brush by real techniques and decided to buy both because I watched some videos where people were giving advice on using the stippling brush for bb cream and foundation. Yeah. No. The stippling brush is great for loose powered blush and bronzer but not for liquid coverage. If you are like me and are looking for a brush for applying foundation or cc/bb cream, you want this brush.

I bought this brush after I bought a starter set at Target and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I use it everyday! It is a bit smaller than I expected, but other than that, I have no complaints. As of today, I have purchased the entire set including the "brow set" and the "prep and prime" set and plan to buy doubles of most of them. They are very easy to clean using the Real Techniques Cleansing Palette and the Real Techniques Deep Cleansing Gel Brush Cleaner (which I also bought on Amazon). I would DEFINITELY recommend buying these brushes.

but it does not seem like the same quality

By Nicole C. on May 14, 2017

I've ordered this before from Amazon, but it does not seem like the same quality. The bristles seem flimsy now and not as dense. I'm not terribly unhappy, but I notice a difference in the quality from when I first ordered this brush a couple of years ago. I hope this is not a fake, but I suspect it might be. I will probably return it and go buy a real one from the Real Techniques website.

I bought this brush 5 months ago and have loved it ever since

By Gya on May 29, 2016

I bought this brush 5 months ago and have loved it ever since. I like the smooth and even full coverage application the brush gives. (I use it with Estee Lauder's double wear foundation). To clean, I use a few drops of oil first to get rid of excess dried foundation and then I wash out the oil and residue with a cleanser. I try to do this no less than every 2 weeks (but I admit I have gone 3-4 weeks without a deep clean..) and it works well for me even though I use the brush every single day.

My only complaint, which may in fact be my fault, is that after 5 months of daily use, the bristles totally fell out. A few had become loose a month or two ago, but recently the entire bunch just popped out as I was cleaning it. The glue holding them in the barrel had been compromised somehow. I tried to squeeze it back in which worked for a week but then the bristles became uneven and did not sit right so the foundation application was terrible. I ended up just throwing it away and I will be repurchasing the brush.

I don't necessarily feel this is a reflection on the quality of the brush, but maybe something in my cleaning method messed with the glue even though I was quite careful to not get any water down into the bristles and always kept the brush flat during and after washing. In any case, for a brush under $10 that works this well for me for about half a year, I would still recommend trying it!
